Stephen Ireland began turning out for the team in pre-season this summer through good friend and current Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish midfielder then invited additional ex-pros, who all compete in a weekly small-sided game, to participate.

"It's a little different but then, I love sprinting and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"That movement is what I'm after. It's good fun."

Along with the forward's six goals on his first game, Stephen Ireland has netted eight in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while Boyd hit 5 on his debut match and Lescott, a defender by position, notched a triple in one match up front.

The team are leading of the Premier Division with three wins from 3 and a goal difference of +19.

Paul Barrow, 38, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced former Latics full-back Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his young boy who Heskey was.
