Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
