A 60-day cruise around Australia is being halted days after the death of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a distant island.

The passenger had been trekking on the tropical location with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The liner left without her and went back later that day after the ship staff realised the lady was missing.

An extensive hunt found her remains the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.
